Amy’s Kitchen Recall

The U. S. Food and Drug Administration announced a voluntary recall by Amy’s Kitchen, Inc. as of March 22, 2015 for some of their products containing organic spinach that may contain Listeria monocytogenes. Many of you may have seen or purchased these products in your local supermarket’s frozen health section. The company’s organic spinach suppliers alerted them to the possibility of the spinach that could lead to listeria infection. Such an infection can give symptoms of fevers, bad headache, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and stiffness. Such a listeria infection can be deadly for people who have a compromised immune system, young children, and the elderly. It can also lead to miscarriages and even stillbirths in pregnant women, so it is a highly dangerous infection.

Latest Xarelto News

The anticoagulant drug, Xarelto, has been the subject of warnings on this site on more than one occasion due to its dangerous bleeding complications with no proven antidote to date. Now reports are coming in pointing to misconduct and discrepancies carried out by Xarelto’s makers to bring even more insult to injuries. There are new reports suggesting that in clinical trials the drug’s safety was falsified and evidence of danger was destroyed. In fact it has been reported that one of the reports for Xarelto trials by Bayer Pharmaceuticals was carried out with such disregard for safety and protocol the Federal Drug Administration had to reject the drug’s approval. Presumably, the researchers in the particular study on Xarelto flat out falsified their data and destroyed medical records in an ugly cover-up. Xarelto’s makers seemed to care more about getting their drug out on the market than providing consumers with a safe anticoagulant. It seems they believe it is perfectly fine to endanger consumers everywhere in their self-serving cause of making money.

Warmer Weather and Rise in Motorcycle Accidents

As the temperatures slowly begin to rise, all things outdoors start to welcome Spring. This includes a great increase in motorcycles being out on the roads in states that have been waiting for winter’s grasp to ease. With more motorcycles on the road, there is unfortunately a resulting increase in motorcycle accidents leading to injuries and death. Savvy drivers will be those who take in all their surroundings, including those motorcycles that are harder to see but rightful users of the same roadways as any other motor vehicle. Motorists should be on the lookout for motorcycles and be cautious in approaching them out on the roadways to help prevent unnecessary accidents. Motorcyclists should also take all the necessary precautions and cautions while enjoying the freedom of the ride their bike affords.

Tylenol Makers Plead Guilty

Walk to your medicine cabinet and throw away all your over-the-counter drugs made by Johnson & Johnson.  Does that sound alarmist?  Perhaps it does, but Johnson & Johnson subsidiary (McNeil Consumer Healthcare) just pled guilty on March 10, 2015 to selling their millions of loyal consumers contaminated drugs.  From 2008 to 2010 Johnson & Johnson did mass recalls on over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Rolaids, Benadryl, Sudafed, and others because of manufacturing practices that resulted in metal particles, moldy odors, and labeling problems.  In 2010 they had to do mass recalls of children’s over-the-counter medications, including Infants’ Tylenol and Children’s Motrin made in their plant in Pennsylvania.  Parents actually found black specks in the bottom of their liquid Infants’ Tylenol starting in 2009 and that was due to metals such as nickel and chromium.

Johnson & Johnson — Guilty Plea

Walk to your medicine cabinet and throw away all your over-the-counter drugs made by Johnson & Johnson. Does that sound alarmist? One might think Johnson & Johnson would learn from their huge recall fueled decline in sales, with 2009 and 2010 sales that were the worst since World War II. Perhaps they will learn from the $25 million dollars that will be paid out to settle their federal case. A McNeil Consumer Healthcare spokesperson did come out after the U.S. Department of Justice settlement and state that their company has “been implementing enhanced quality and oversight standards across its entire business.” Let us hope so. It is time that companies, like this one, start having respect for health and well-being of loyal consumers over their bottom line.

If you or someone you know has had an issue related to any of the Johnson & Johnson (McNeil Consumer Healthcare) over-the-counter products, do not hesitate to contact the caring professionals at Inserra & Kelley, who emphasize this type of case. We would be privileged to research your particular case and see whether compensation may be due to you.
