Energy Drink Dangers

Once again a terrible tragedy warns consumers of the dangers that come with popular energy drinks prolific in today’s market.  A 16 year old girl lost her life while away from home on a fun trip to Mexico where she hydrated herself with energy drinks instead of water while being active on the beach.  The girl told her traveling companions she was not feeling well and a short time later went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

While energy drinks can safely be consumed, in moderation, they are not substitutes for water since they cause blood pressure and heart rate to increase, while also contracting the muscles of the body.  With their popularity, it is vital that parents and guardians monitor their children’s intake of these and make sure they are getting plenty of water in the same day.

Inserra & Kelley Law Offices wishes all its readership a safe summer, full of activity done while keeping safe and health in mind.  Stay hydrated and beware of products that can be dangerous to the body no matter how tempting and attractive they can seem.

Toyota Recall – Air Bags and Emissions Control

has issued a global recall of 3.37 million vehicles due to problems with air bags and with emissions control units.  2.87 million of the vehicles could have defects with the emissions controls and 1.43 million have defects with the air bag deflators.  There are around 930,000 of these vehicles that could have problems with both defects!

The problem with the emissions control involves units having cracks that can cause fuel leaks.  The vehicles involved are model years 2006 to 2015 and are the Prius, Auris hatchback, and the Corolla.  Air bag inflators, as the other subject defect, can contain small cracks in the weld that separate the inflator chambers in model years 2010 to 2012 and are the Prius and Lexus CT200h.  The United States has 482,000 of the recall subject vehicles and owners should be aware that air bags could partially cause injury after partially inflating into the vehicle interior.

If your Toyota may be subject to the recall, be sure to check the details of the recall for Toyota owners at http://www.toyota.com/recall to check out recall details and the fix being done by Toyota.  If you or a loved one has already been injured, or even killed, by a vehicle defect, please contact the professionals at Inserra & Kelley Law Offices to see if you may be entitled to compensation.

Unsecured Loads Especially Dangerous for Motorcyclists

Secure those loads out on the roads to avoid a scary scenario like shown in the video here.  In Minnesota, on Interstate 94, an unsecured load became unsecured, causing it to fly off a sports utility vehicle to strike a motorcyclist.  Such as accident can certainly be dangerous hitting any fellow driver out on the road, but the danger is even more significant for a motorcycle rider.  The load caused the motorcycle to flip with its 20 year old, inexperienced driver in tow.  In this case, as can happen when loads are lost, the driver of the sports utility vehicle did not even seem to be aware the rolled up foam had come off the vehicle as it kept going on its merry way down the road.  Fortunately for this motorcycle rider, his injuries were not fatal and other motorists stopped to assist him as soon as the accident occurred.  The results of the accident could have been extremely critical or fatal, so it is recommended that motorists secure any type of load being carried by a vehicle and that  motorcyclists have a defensive driving course under their belt  before hitting unpredictable highways and byways.

If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of an accident, please contact Inserra & Kelley Law Offices as you may be entitled to compensation.  Inserra & Kelley’s attorney, Craig Kelley, is a motorcycle enthusiast and advocate for motorcyclists out on the roads of Nebraska and Iowa.

Ikea Dressers Recalled After 6 Kids Lose Their Lives

Ikea shoppers check your dressers bought from the popular super store!  We are sad to report that the dressers have been prone to easily topple, resulting in the loss of six precious children’s lives. Without being attached to a wall securely, the dressers fell on these children, all three years of age or younger.  The fatalities occurred between 2002 and 2016, which makes one wonder why the dressers were not recalled after even one life was taken.  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that, in addition to the deaths, 36 more children have been injured by the falling dressers.

In addition to the recall, Ikea and other furniture makers have been warned to make haste with designing safer dressers for sale in the consumer market.  The subject Ikea dressers for this recall include children’s dressers taller than 23.5 inches and adult dressers taller than 29.5 inches, and were sold in Ikea’s American and Canadian stores for years.  The company has offered people with these dressers free kits to mount them on the walls and is warning anyone who owns them to get them out of the way of children.  Dresser accidents like these may not be on most consumers’ radar, but statistic state that there is a fatality of children every two weeks from furniture or televisions toppling.

If you or someone you love has experienced serious injury or worse after an Ikea dresser crash, contact your medical provider and please contact Inserra & Kelley Law Offices to see whether you may be entitled to compensation.
