Beware of Diabetes Meds Containing Saxagliptin and Alogliptin

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an updated warning on diabetes drugs containing the ingredients Saxagliptin and Alogliptin.  Drugs with these ingredients include those under the brand names Onglyza, Kombiglyze XR, Nesina, Kazano, and Oseni.  The FDA has taken a good look at these drugs and determined that they put users at a risk of heart failure.  This is especially true for patients who have heart or kidney disease when they start taking the subject diabetes drugs.  Because of these risks, warnings of such are being required for the drug labels, but the drugs have not been recalled.

The recommendation for now is that individuals with type 2 diabetes, who take these drugs to lower blood sugar, consult with their medical providers about whether they should discontinue these particular drugs and be prescribed something different.

If you or a loved one has suffered the adverse impact of any of the type 2 diabetes drugs containing Saxagliptin or Alogliptin, contact your medical provider immediately, and do not hesitate to contact Inserra & Kelley Law Offices for assistance and to see whether you may be entitled to compensation for drug related injury.

The Brain-Protecting Benefits of Omega 3s

Given the problems people can have with concussions and traumatic brain injuries with auto accidents and many other brain harming accidents, our firm has always tried to keep its readership up to date on the latest knowledge regarding these issues.  Head injuries have real present and future implications for cognitive deficits and many other issues for victims.  However, today we get to pass along to you a tip in arming yourself proactively against becoming another brain injury statistic during a traumatic event.

Studies have shown that when the highways in the brain that carry nutrients and other important materials become twisted and tangled by chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) with recurrent head traumas, essential materials cannot be carried to brain cells and regions of the brain can die.  CTE signs can include things such as depression, short-term memory loss, cognitive problems, aggressive behaviors, trouble with movements and walking, speech difficulties, and dementia.  While researchers begin to understand the major implications of head injuries and CTE, they have found through studies that omega-3 fatty acids could protect individuals from brain injuries themselves, as well as the brain inflammation that comes with head injury!  They could also help with healing the brain, keeping in mind that the brain is made up of 60 percent fat, so fatty acids help connect the neuronal circuits of the brain.  Omega-3’s in the form of supplements or food sources can be simple insurance for users and can be added to the diet on a daily basis with the possible benefits above, as well as many protective anti-inflammatory and brain building benefits.  It is never a bad thing to consult your medical provider about adding Omega-3’s to your daily regimen.

Inserra & Kelley Law Offices wants its readers to live a life of health, well-being and healing from trauma.  If you have been the victim of an accident resulting in a head injury or any other injuries, do not hesitate to contact us for help with determining whether you or a loved one might be entitled to compensation.

Ford Issues Second Recall of the Year

Ford Motor Company has issued recalls for a variety of issues for some of its F-150 trucks, F-Series Super Duty Trucks, Explorers, Expeditions, Mustangs, and Lincoln Navigator vehicles.  The recalls impact vehicles here in the United States and also in Canada.  For 184,000 of the vehicles in the United States, there is a problem in which the vehicle could shift down to first gear without warning.  There are also some Explorers with flaws in their suspension systems and F-Series Super Duty trucks with problems with their tires.  With the gear downshifting problem in 2011-2012 Ford F-150 trucks and 2012 Expeditions, Mustangs, and Lincoln Navigators, the issue can cause a vehicle to suddenly slow and then to make things more dangerous the rear tires could lock-up or slide.  So far there are three injuries reported related to this problem, but there may be unreported problems and accidents in the United States and Canada.

For the suspension problems in 75,364 2014-2015 Explorers, the rear-suspension toe links being improperly welded could cause a breakage of the link while the sports utility vehicle is moving, which could cause an accident.  The problem with the Super-Duty Truck tires involves the sidewalls rupturing while the vehicles are moving.  There are also some recalls involving air bags that might not deploy even though accident force is enough that they should, as well as some driver’s seat mounting brackets being improperly welded.  The vehicles affected by these two recalls include Ford Flex crossover utility vehicles, Ford Taurus sedans, Lincoln MKS sedans, and Mercury Sable sedans from 2007-2012, and 2016 Ford Fusion sedans.

For information as to whether your vehicle is affected by any of these recalls you may go to the Ford recall website at https://owner.ford.com/tools/account/maintenance/recalls.html where you will need to have your VIN number ready.  If you or a loved one has suffered an injury due to an automobile defect, feel free to contact our firm with questions.  As always, Inserra & Kelley Law Offices wants all of you out there to remain safe and healthy, so is here to provide the latest information on potentially dangerous products.  You may be entitled to compensation if product defects resulted in injuries or death.

Costco Frozen Vegetable Listeria Contamination

are at the center of the latest listeria scare and recall.  CRF Frozen Foods has recalled frozen vegetable items possibly contaminated with listeria monocytogenes and sold in Costco. These organisms can result in severe and even fatal infections, especially in the very young, the elderly population, and in individuals with suppressed immune systems.   Even populations out of those categories can experience listeria infection, with symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, stiffness, bad headache, and significant fever.  This can cause more severe or even fatal problems in the more at risk populations and the infection can cause miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant patients.   Listeria infection can also cause meningitis.

The frozen vegetables that are the recalled products include the Quick Frozen (IQF) Organic Petite Green Peas and the IQF Organic White Sweet Corn.  If you think you may have any of the contaminated products, or already may have fallen prey to the listeria infection from eating the products already, FDA.gov is the site to go to for information.  The affected products are said to be isolated to lots sold between September 13, 2015 and March 16, 2016.

If you or someone you know has suffered illness possibly of the listeria infection variety, or another foodborne illness, contact your medical provider and call Inserra & Kelley Law Offices to discuss possible compensation you may be entitled to.
