Harbor Freight Recalling 454,000 Jack Stands for Risk of Collapsing

Harbor Freight is recalling 454,000 jack stands as they pose a serious safety risk and they have advised consumers to stop using them immediately.   Consumers may return them to the store and receive a gift card equal to the price of the jack stands.

Harbor Freight has posted on their retailer’s website that some of the Pittsburg Automotive 3 Ton and 6 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands that, “there is a potential, while under load and with a shift in weight, for the pawl to disengage from the extension lifting post, allowing the stand to drop suddenly.”  The defect could cause serious bodily injury for people near or under a lifted vehicle and may cause property damage to the vehicle.

The jack stands with item number 56371, 61196 and 61197 are being recalled.  The item numbers can be found at the base of the stands on the yellow part of the label for item numbers 61196 and 61197.  The 56371 jack stand item number can be found on the label on the top of each stand.

J&J Talcum Powder Stops Sales Due to a Tidal Wave of Lawsuits
