A drug frequently used for anxiety problems, sold under the brand name Lyrica (generic name, pregabalin) has been linked to birth defects. In addition to anxiety, Lyrica (or pregabalin) is often prescribed for conditions such as pain, epilepsy, and other brain conditions, with approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for these uses. Research has found that women who took this drug in the first trimester of their pregnancy had a three times higher risk than other pregnant women for birthing a child with major birth defects. These birth defects include problems in structures in the nervous system and organs, as well as heart defects. Lyrica (pregabalin) use caused six more times likelihood of central nervous system defect relationships.
If you are pregnant, or think you could be pregnant, be sure to have a long, serious discussion with your medical provider before taking Lyrica (pregabalin). If you or a loved one has already suffered the consequences of birth defects after use of this drug, please contact the caring professionals at Inserra & Kelley Law Offices for information as to whether you might have be entitled to compensation.
