One of Omaha’s Leading Personal Injury Attorneys
Ryan grew up in a working-class family with deep roots in Omaha, Benson, and Florence going back to the 1890s. His family’s long history in Omaha has shaped his views on the importance of strong advocates for injured individuals and families. His grandfather, who helped organize the grain millers’ union in Omaha, lost an eye when a defective boiler exploded at the grain mill. The stories Ryan heard about the fast-thinking lawyer who preserved evidence at the scene and advocated on his grandfather’s behalf made a lasting impact on him.
His family worked in the building trades, and Ryan began sweeping floors, emptying trash barrels, and bending metal in his uncle’s sheet metal shop while he was in high school. Growing up, he spent countless summer hours on a bass boat with his dad, winter days sitting on a five-gallon bucket fishing through a hole in the ice, and fall and winter weekends hunting with his family’s German shorthairs and English setters.
During his undergraduate studies, Ryan interned in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C., and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He received his law degree from Creighton University School of Law, where he served as an assistant editor of the Creighton Law Review and a senior member of the Moot Court Board and graduated with honors.
While raising his family and practicing law, Ryan also became an active member of the Omaha metro community. He was elected twice to the St. Cecilia Cathedral School Board and elected chancellor of the Knights of Columbus’ Father Flanagan of Boys Town Council 652. He was also selected for and graduated from the Nebraska State Bar Association’s Leadership Academy (2010–2011) and Leadership Omaha (2013–2014).
Ryan and his wife, Jennifer, raised two children who participated in multiple youth sports in Omaha. He has continued his family’s tradition of passing on a love of the outdoors through camping, hiking, fishing, and fall weekends spent pheasant and quail hunting with their bird dogs. Ryan often jokes that “Jennifer will be sainted.” For many years, they have shared their home with at least three—and sometimes four—bird dogs. The dogs remain at home with them while their children are away at undergraduate and graduate school.
Ryan grew up understanding how much his family’s financial security—and their ability to enjoy time together—depended on everyone being healthy and able-bodied. That experience led him to devote his legal practice to advocating for people and families injured through no fault of their own. As a personal injury attorney, he has litigated a wide variety of cases involving vehicle negligence, defective products, dangerous premises, and wrongful death in Nebraska and Iowa.
In every case, Ryan draws on his personal experiences and brings energy, skill, and trial experience to his work on behalf of clients.
