TRUVADA LAWSUIT – FREE CONFIDENTIAL CONSULTATION
What is Truvada?
Truvada is used in conjunction with other HIV medications to control HIV infections. Truvada is not a cure for HIV or AIDS but is used to treat symptoms of the illnesses, especially preventing other infections or cancers. Truvada is intended to help HIV patients manage their quality of life.
Truvada is also used for individuals who are HIV-negative but have a high risk of developing HIV. Approved for this use on July 16, 2002, it was intended for those having unprotected sex, infected with an STD, abusing drugs, or with HIV infested partners. This is called pre-exposure prophylaxis or PrEP.
Truvada is designed to be taken with other HIV medications, otherwise, it is less effective than intended. The drug contains two different HIV medications – emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). Both medications belong to a group of HIV drugs called nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Manufactured by Gilead Sciences, the drug was approved for HIV prevention in July 2002.
Are There Other TDF Drugs?
TDF drugs are not limited to Truvada. There are four others that may cause the serious side effects mentioned below.
- Truvada, 300 mg
- Complera, 300 mg
- Stribild, 300 mg
- Viread, 300 mg

What are the Main Symptoms of Kidney Failure?
Kidney failure occurs when the kidneys gradually begin to lose function. In the early stages, you may be unaware that your kidneys are beginning to fail. The Mayo Clinic tells us the signs of kidney failure are nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue and weakness, changes in how much you urinate, decreased mental sharpness, muscle twitches and cramps, swelling of feet and ankles, persistent itchiness, chest pain, shortness of breath, and high blood pressure.
If you have suffered from one or more of the symptoms listed above and currently take or have taken Truvada, Inserra | Kelley | Sewell suggests you contact your doctor immediately. Kidney failure is a very frightening potential side effect of this HIV drug, Truvada.
What is a Mass Tort Lawsuit?
When filing lawsuits, there are two types of lawsuits. In a class action lawsuit all members of the class action are treated as a collective group and receive the same amount of compensation. The other type of lawsuit is a mass tort and in a mass tort each person is treated as an individual. The amount of compensation awarded will be determined on each individual’s circumstances.
Truvada falls under the category of a mass tort. If you have suffered from adverse effects from a TDF drug such as Truvada, contact Inserra | Kelley | Sewell for help.
How Can Inserra | Kelley | Sewell Help?
Our goal is to help people who have been injured because of the negligence of another. In this case, Gilead, the manufacturer of Truvada, knew of the risks involved and failed to bring a safer, alternative drug to market. People have suffered and are suffering from serious side effects as a result. We want to hold Gilead accountable for their negligence in a Truvada lawsuit.
If you think you have a claim against Gilead and may qualify for a Truvada lawsuit, contact our law firm for a free consultation. You may qualify for compensation.
